Data underpins our economy, enabling insights, better decisions, innovation, and sustainable growth. However, a lack of clarity, consistency and confidence in creating, using and sharing data can act as a barrier.

We established the Data Standards Expert Panel to independently assess the role of standards to meet this need and support Mission 1 of the UK’s National Data Strategy: Unlocking the value of data across the economy. The “Value of Data” report is the first key output, with special thanks to the author, Alan Mayo, the Panel chair Mark Enzer, and the Panel’s members.

The report:

  • Sets out a proposed new Standards Based Data Framework
  • Shares insights on existing good practice, including examples in energy and transport
  • Provides recommendations for industry, government and standards bodies
