Speakers
Dr Rachel Capon Rachel is a Chartered Meteorologist, with over 19 years’ experience in the construction sector. Her expertise encompasses sustainability, metrics, environmental product declarations (EPDs) and international reporting of sector greenhouse gas emissions and sinks, together with climate risk, resilience and adaptation. She leads the UK Concrete sustainability data collection programme, including annual sector reporting to government for inclusion in official statistics, development of product and sector metrics, and LCA for EPDs. She created the MPA sector EPDs for cement and ready-mixed concrete and is a keen advocate for their appropriate use, especially in early-stage design. Rachel also led a DESNZ funded consortium to model the carbon emissions sink due to carbonation of concrete to inform the UK’s international climate reporting. She is leading global industry collaboration on development of carbonation methodologies for IPCC greenhouse gas inventory reporting and has been selected as a Coordinating Lead Author for the 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal and CCUS. She is active in numerous industry committees and task groups, including BSI committees, Eco Platform and the UNIDO Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative. |
Patrick Hermon Pat is a sustainability consultant with over 15 years’ experience specialising in LCA, LCC, materials efficiency, circular economy, sustainable construction methods and environmental assessment. Following time at a large consultancy in London, he led LCA teams at eTool (now Cerclos) BRE and now his own consultancy LCD. Notable projects include The New Perth Stadium, world first EN15978 compliant peer-reviewed LCA on the Sustainability Learning Centre, running LCA training for 100s of practitioners and builing numerous LCA data libraries and tools. He is an active expert on the CEN350 BSI B558 Committee (Sustainability in Construction Works), working to improve international standards in LCA. He also held a seat on the board of Eco Platform, the Steering Group of the Whole Life Carbon Network, contributes to the Net Zero Standard and lectures in LCA at Westminster, Bath and Brighton University. |
Jean Yuan Jean Yuan is a Lead Standards Development Manager at BSI, where she works with leaders from industry, government and academia to shape standards that support the transition to a sustainable and net zero built environment. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in policy, strategy and international collaboration, Jean has worked with senior decision-makers, regulators and global partners to address complex challenges and translate emerging priorities into practical action. Her background in building partnerships, facilitating dialogue and navigating diverse stakeholder interests informs her passion for standards as a powerful tool for driving innovation, resilience and sustainable outcomes across the built environment. |
