What does it really mean to be a purpose-driven organization?
And more importantly how do you prove it?
Organizations today are under increasing pressure to demonstrate value beyond profit, avoid harm to people and the planet and make decisions that align with a sustainable future. ISO 37011 is being developed to help organizations turn these expectations into action.
The standard will soon go through public consultation, giving stakeholders across industry, policy, civil society and academia the opportunity to review and shape its direction.

Why this matters now
Expectations have changed and they’re still rising. Organizations are no longer judged solely on financial performance. They are expected to contribute to long-term wellbeing, protect the systems they depend on and act responsibly beyond compliance.
At the same time, global challenges, from climate change to social inequality, are exposing the limits of current approaches.
The question is no longer whether organizations should act, but how.
What is ISO 37011 and why is it different?
ISO 37011 is an emerging international standard, based on PAS 808, that provides guidance on becoming a purpose-driven organization.
It helps organizations define a clear purpose and embed it into governance, strategy and decision-making so that actions align with the long-term wellbeing of people and the planet. Unlike traditional approaches, it does not treat purpose as an add-on. It focuses on how value is created at the core of the organization.
This is not about adding purpose alongside business, it’s about reshaping how business is done.
