As natural capital becomes a growing area of investment, nature markets are gaining momentum.

Part of our Net Zero Week, this free webinar brings together national and international experts to examine how nature-based markets are developing, how frameworks and standards are enabling progress and what’s needed to unlock their full potential.

What the webinar will cover:

  • Emerging trends in biodiversity and blue carbon markets.
  • The enabling role of standards and frameworks.
  • Perspectives from government, business and global environmental bodies.
  • Opportunities for investment, innovation and impact.
  • Cross-sector insights on scaling nature-based solutions.

Meet the Speakers:

Anne Hayes
Anne Hayes
Director of Sectors and Standards Development, BSI
Anne Hayes leads BSI’s sector strategies and standards teams, ensuring UK and global innovation is supported with relevant standards. With 20 years’ experience in standardization, she has headed up work across governance, risk, healthcare and sustainability.
Tom Butterworth
Tom Butterworth
Director, UKIMEA Nature Lead, ARUP
Tom leads ARUP’s nature work and was central to developing the Biodiversity Net Gain approach, shaping policy, metrics, and guidance. With 27+ years’ experience in conservation and strategy, he is a Fellow of CIEEM and the Royal Society for Biology.
Dr. Shawn Doyle
Dr. Shawn Doyle
Microbial Ecologist, The Water Institute
Dr. Shawn Doyle is a Microbial Ecologist at The Water Institute, where he leads research at the critical intersection of coastal ecology, wetland biogeochemistry, and ecosystem restoration assessment. His work focuses on quantifying the microbial processes that drive carbon and methane dynamics in coastal wetland ecosystems to enhance the viability of blue carbon projects.

By integrating microbial ecology with applied geoscience and numerical modeling, his research seeks to reduce critical uncertainties surrounding carbon sequestration rates and long-term storage—a key step in bringing credible blue carbon credits to market. Beyond his carbon-focused research, Dr. Doyle leads initiatives that quantify the co-benefits of coastal restoration efforts.

At the Institute, he directs work leveraging environmental DNA (eDNA) approaches to monitor and verify biodiversity gains from wetland restoration projects.

He also leads large-scale data management and numerical ecology efforts supporting both state and federal partners in the adaptive management of coastal fish and invertebrate populations. His broader experience includes studying ecosystem resilience and microbial responses to major disturbances such as hurricanes and oil spills. Dr. Doyle holds both a B.S. and Ph.D. in Microbiology from Louisiana State University.
