She was appointed as a SpAd to the House of Commons women and equalities select committee in 2016, and led the Access Association as their national president for 7 years. She has sat on British Standards committees for over 15 years, and currently chairs the committee responsible for the BS8300 suite of documents covering accessible and inclusive design

He is also the Chair of the NFCC Fire Engineering and Technical Standards group and represents NFCC on a range of British Standards Committees, including those for fire engineering and smoke and heat control systems and is currently the panel convenor for the drafting of BS 9996 – Commissioning and Maintenance of Integrated Fire Safety Systems – Code of Practice.

Paul holds industry recognised fire safety and health and safety qualifications including Fire Protection Association (FPA) and Skills for Justice (SFJ) diplomas in the roles of fire inspector and fire auditor. He has a NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) health and safety general qualification, is a certified fire door inspector and holds IFE and the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers memberships.
