With a fantastic list of speakers and interactive sessions now confirmed, the first ever BSI Young Professionals Exchange, in partnership with BYP Network, is an event not to be missed!
Whether you are a YP or an individual looking to engage with YP’s across a wide range of sectors, or, an organisation wanting to learn how you can support your YP employees career development through standards, here is a flavour of what you can expect at The Barbican Centre on 20 November.

Keynote Address and Panel Session
Hear an inspiring keynote address from Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock, award winning space scientist, author and broadcaster. She will then join a panel focussed on standards shaping career progression and a fairer future. Other panellists include:

She is a BSc Economics graduate of The University of Nottingham, University of Florida MSc scholar, and an ex-Great Britain javelin thrower.
After gaining work experience in investment banking, Kike then worked in Business Development at a fast-growing financial technology for two years because she realised ‘tech is the future’.
Shana leads on engagement with corporations and businesses. Her work is primarily to advise organizations using standards to support their development of more credible and holistic net zero strategies.
Lachean is Lead Standards Development Manager in the Management System Standards and Wellbeing team. She is committee manager to ISO/TC 283 Occupational Health and Safety Management, responsible for ISO 45001 and related guidance standards, and is also working with experts on a new national standard on suicide prevention.
Sabrina Palme, MBA, is the CEO and founding partner at Palqee. Recognised among the ‘100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics’, Sabrina is a data scientist, an experienced Governance, Risk, Compliance leader. She led the design and development of PRISMA – an innovative solution for context-based monitoring of operational AI systems for more trustworthy AI.
Dr Maria Tomlinson is a lecturer in Public Communication and Gender at the University of Sheffield. She researches the impact of health communication on social inequities and works closely with organisations to address these inequities. She is author of books including The Menstrual Movement in the Media: Reducing Stigma and Tackling Social Inequalities (2024).
Peter is best known for his role with the UK HSE, where he was senior psychologist for 24 years and was a constant in encouraging employers to consider the role of work in promoting positive worker mental health outcomes. He is founder and director of Being Real Workplace Mental Health Solutions and Mental Health Advisor to the charity Mates in Mind.
Franco is a 27-year-old futurist, activist and a creative dreamer from South Africa. Currently a PhD candidate at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, Franco is researching ways to detect life on other planets using swarms of robots. Passionate about harnessing cutting edge technology as a force of good, they contributed to the world’s first sustainability in robotics standard currently in development at BSI.
Emma leads BSI's innovation policy and university engagement raising awareness of standards. She recently led BSI’s response to the AI Safety Summit 2023 and developed a standards-focused program for Biomedical Engineering students. Previously, Emma launched open-access journals in digital health and authored Central Banking’s Big Data Focus Reports.
