What is this webinar about?

The field of robotics is developing rapidly. As it does, we must be mindful that robots have the potential to inflict ethical harms around safety, privacy, bias and job displacement. To help you navigate the pitfalls, we've published the revised BS 8611:2023 Robots and robotic devices — Ethical design and application of robots and robotic systems – Guide. This document provides essential national guidance on ethical robot design. It looks to anticipate and avoid potential ethical hazards and deals with robotics for industrial, personal care, services, and medical applications. The standard is being discussed by its authors at a free webinar on 18 September.

The session will cover:

  • why BS 8611 is important;
  • the value to be gained from using BS 8611; and
  • how designers, managers, operators, and systems integrators can get involved with the future work of BSI's robotics committee.
