Forging the path to a sustainable fashion standard

In 2023, we partnered with the University of Glasgow to host the Future of Sustainable Fashion Symposium, a workshop that brought together key industry experts to examine the role that a standard in sustainable fashion could play in supporting the future of the industry.

The fashion industry today continues to face some apparent challenges. According to the UN Fashion Alliance:

  • The fashion industry is responsible for an estimated 2%-8% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions,
  • It consumes approximately 215 trillion litres of water a year.
  • Textiles account for around 9% of annual microplastics that make their way into our oceans.

Explore whether and how a standard could steer fashion towards a more sustainable future, allowing brands, manufacturers, and consumers to make choices that reflect a shared definition of sustainability.
