Luke Osborne is the Technical Director at Electrical Safety First, a charity whose primary focus is to reduce the number of fires, injuries and deaths caused by electricity in homes across the UK.  Luke leads both the electrical product safety and the electrical installation safety teams, ensuring that products and installations are safe and fit-for-purpose. In addition to conducting investigations in these areas- with the aim of providing credible evidence and solutions where problems are identified, Electrical Safety First also publish a range of guidance and materials for the public, electrical contractors and landlords. The charity has a history of success, working with a range of stakeholders to elicit change and to drive safer consumer behaviour.

Additionally, Luke provides representation for the charity on JPEL/64 and several committees and working groups.

Kirsty Johnson
Technical Director, Surge Protection Devices Ltd
Kirsty Johnson is the Technical Director at Surge Protection Devices Ltd, where she bridges the gap between complex engineering and practical industry application. As a dedicated BSI Committee member and a Member of the IET, Kirsty plays a pivotal role in shaping the standards that govern the UK’s electrical landscape. A frequent collaborator with NAPIT, NICEIC, and the ECA, she is a regular industry speaker recognized for her commitment to professional excellence. Driven by a keen interest in the evolution of the electrical sector, Kirsty is a staunch advocate for education, frequently providing free CPD to ensure engineers and contractors are equipped for the future.

Abbey Dorian
Energy Sector Lead, BSI 
Abbey Dorian is the Energy Sector Lead at BSI. She is a Standards professional with extensive experience in collaborative working with industry and government to address energy sector needs and challenges through standardization. She oversees a strategic standardization portfolio of established and emerging energy sector focus areas including energy system digitalization, CCS, battery technology, nuclear energy, and wind energy systems. She has been involved in a variety of strategic standardization programmes including the BSI Faraday Battery Challenge, CCS Greenhouse Gas Removals Standards Programme, Hy4Heat and Energy Smart Appliances. Before her time at BSI, she worked at the Australian National Standards Body in a range of roles, including overseeing the energy & electrotechnology, mining, oil & gas stakeholder engagement portfolio and managing capacity building programs in South-east Asia and the Pacific Islands. During her time at Standards Australia, she oversaw programs including the ASEAN Digital Trade Standards Initiative and established the first regional standards committee in the Pacific Islands focusing on climate resilience.   
 
Mark Coles BEng (Hons) MIET
Head of Technical Regulations

Mark Coles served his apprenticeship as an electrician with the UK Atomic Energy Authority and worked on many nuclear projects including the decommissioning of Windscale Piles 1 & 2, decommissioning of the Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR), Cement Encapsulation Plant, commissioning of THORP (Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant) and the Auto-Sampling Pneumatic Transfer System at Sellafield, Cumbria.


After studying Electrical & Electronic Engineering at London South Bank University, Mark worked as Contracts and Project Manager in electrical contracting at Canary Wharf, London and then held the post of Operations Engineer with NICEIC.

Currently, Mark is Head of Technical Regulations at the IET and is responsible for the development of BS 7671, IET Guidance Notes and associated Codes of Practice.

Mark is a very experienced standards maker and a leader in standards making. He holds the convenorships of numerous international and European technical committees and is an appointed UK expert on many others, setting standards for low voltage electrical installations across the world. 

Mark is also the Committee Manager for JPEL/64, the UK technical committee responsible for BS 7671, Requirements for Electrical Installations, The IET Wiring Regulations. 

Mark speaks regularly at industry events, writes articles for the IET publication Wiring Matters and other IET and trade publications.
